After fellowship time Tom Boyhan introduced Karen Marcus who has served for 24 years as the County Commissioner for District 1. In spite of declining tax revenues Palm Beach County is in pretty good shape as they have managed to attract Scripps and Max Planck and have established this as a Bio Science Center which is regarded as No. 3 in the country. In addition we will still continue some agriculture as we are the No. 1 producer of sweet corn and tourism, but construction will decline. The current budget is 650 million of which 450 is the Sheriff’s Budget. She does think next year will be the toughest budget year and then things will begin to improve. Part of the problem is we are still paying for the first voting system purchased after 2004 and the second mandated by the state to leave a paper trail. She thought Florida needed a more equitable tax system rather than the property tax. She stressed the importance of updating your signature at voter registration and bringing a picture ID. Remember to Vote in August Primary
